Naked Conversations, by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel

Just finished it.It's all still fresh and I feel I have focussed mainly on the topics I am currently interested in and the rest needs more thinking (and browsing!) mainly web ethics. I read his Corporate Weblog Manifesto , moved on to the one written by Allan Jenkins, and later here:)
[Oh, well, drifted away from the book, didn't I? Apologies, I am dead tired and sleepy:/]
Anyway, the best part of the book I think (the main idea of convincing readers to write corporate blog is known to me, but then again I am quite late with reading this book:P) was 'Blogging Rights and Wrongs'/ Every blogger should read those because those apply to all types of blogs.
Very good study!

Literature on-line, new genre? one or more?

I belong to the lucky generation of those who started writing novels at the uni (started by one of us, continued by the next from the class - chapter by chapter, or paragraph by paragraph), but I am happy to see that today we have a genre for them - wovels, i.e. web-novels. Here is an ambitious example of one of those published (word 'published' seems to gain on its meaning as well;)) by Underland Press. We have lot's of bloggers publishing traditional books ON PAPER!:) (Schoble, Abby Lee, in Poland Krystyna Kofta, in Hungary..) but only now I learn about the opposite movement to bring literary pieces into existence on-line with such popularity. Even Twitter is used for fiction competitions! This time the task was to write a short story in 140 available characters precisely. You can find the full list of the winners here, and the First Place, Ron Gould, here...Brilliant!:) I can't wait to see more, more of fiction and more of the social media - or maybe even mixed with music and videos. If you know any, plz let me know!

Chocolate

That's it! From now on I am being careful about the amount of chocolate I am eating (see: I do not STOP!, you can still give me one..). I started by bringing in the office all my sweets - I simply packed them, brought them in and discretely left on the kitchen table. Then I cried.
I hope this way I will avoid evening chocolate siestas and start eating properly...let's see...

Started running, so it's official now;) But but...I did only 5 min run! How baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad is that!

Apart from the disappointment that I could only do two little rounds in the park behind our house, I enjoyed it extremely. Wantage is a lovely place and if you listen, if you do not take your iPod you can enjoy the whole philharmonics of bird noises, pass poor kids on their torturous way to school (oh, how I hated that feeling of forced commitment to an institution!) and enjoy the little place waking up. Just as me - even though I hate, hate, HATE running ('dirty goths' do not run;)), I DID wake up, which is a miracle. I usually wake up after 3rd coffee, and sometimes I still need a coke.

Anyway, I need to 'run' to work now, but it was not as bad, not bad...

Before going to bed..

'I hate it when you read in bed'
...here is the last page of last week's TIME, actually advert for FT Weekend. Brilliant!

Nighnight!

11th day, 105 days to day 0

Challenge again! I need to stop stuffing myself with chocolate. With my extremely low blood pressure I am OK to keep one glass of red wine here and there, but not the tones of chocolate vanishing in my tummy...oh, well, I am sure my colleagues will do everything to support my efforts and lower the risk of unnecessary temptation;)
I the meantime I am starting to push myself a bit harder - from yoga, belly dancing (those quite obviously just excuses for not running, haha) and exercise to those...

...ah, the very thought of me and fitness together is quite absurd, but that is exactly the reason why I am doing it:) I have enough time, but since I've received few donations somehow I feel I need to push myself harder and be more strict. Let's see.

Swimming from Monday onwards, if my Dragon looses its skin completely and the whole tattoo heals...I hope it will.

InterNations

Talking of charity...of of my Polish colleagues invited me to a new Social Network for expats - InterNations.

'InterNations is the first international online Social Network exclusively for people living and working abroad. As a network of trust, InterNations is a place where its members can interact with other internationally-minded individuals sharing the same situation abroad, similar interests, and needs. Members of InterNations can get and keep in touch with private or work-related friends and acquaintances on a global and local level and exchange trustworthy and relevant information on specific topics with each other.'

I must admit that I am very, very impressed by the idea, design, functionalities and charity involved. Let me quote from here again:
'InterNations aims to be the leading platform for exchange between internationally-minded and acting individuals. Building upon a strong and open-minded international community, InterNations is committed to engage charitably and support cross-cultural understanding beyond the scope of its online community. To do so, InterNations and its members take specific actions together with AFS Intercultural Programs to support less privileged people around the world in gaining access to international education and experience.'

There is one very interesting idea here - option to check viewers of your profile with path on how they got to see it. I think it's a great idea for reinforcing the visibility of the site, slightly elitist approach to networking (in positive sense) and business thinking behind the design of the site.

It's still in Beta, but I am very much up for the idea, and I think I will make a good use of it, not only for private purposes - I think it's brilliant for expanding business networks too. The founders prove great professionalism and knowledge of social media (promotion of the site, charity, local and global networking, board and - very crucial - info on upcoming innovations (event calendar and country profiles). All this in a very tasteful design with a polite, personalized e-mail from the admin. Well done!

Check more on their blog.

Chocolate addict talking..

Sorry guys, blogging will not stop tonight, if I keep finding websites like www.hotchocolatedesign.com!

I just love the design of the site and I love the products...wonder how much would it cost me to order two pairs of shoes...

guess which is the two I am thinking about:)

So far every day comes with a donation!

..so please do not stop! Agnieszka_73 - thank you, whoever you are:)
It makes my heart even happier that Polish people reacted so quickly.
I need to do some more advertising:) Shall I set up my own wiki page, or write an article about myself? I need to work, can someone do it for me, plz?

First photospheres, now photosquares?

Oh well, just when I had this conversation with M. - a photographer who is my newest source of inspiration (his print is standing by my mirror, just opposite my bed, so I can meditate the beauty of the Scottish shores and sea in general!) - about photospheres (wrote about it here) I came across Brent Townshend and his brilliant photos!

He did a few of Oxford and I wonder - how long does it take to make one?!
Those pictures can make miracles, so I advise you all to check them out. He uploaded them to Google photo sharing site, Panoramio, which looks fun as it is.

With his works on it, it is even better!

yesterday, today

Yesterday I have managed to organize my friends and drag them all to Camden Town so that I can do my planned tattoo and convince A. to do hers. Well, I must say it was a lovely afternoon, mainly because of their company, which I am very grateful for! Thanks guys! I met M. too, who perfectly a year ago lived with A. and gave me and my son a home for a few - the most critical - days. It was shocking for all of us to realize it was sooo long time ago!
I was lucky with the tattoo, and experienced quite a post-modern way of 'having it done'. I was sitting there (Camden Piercing and Tattoo Studio, High Street, 02072677876) with two tattooists (one Italian, one...hm..no idea...he was joking throwing different countries, but I think he was Brazilian in the end), listening to them talking a mixture of Spanish-Portuguese - French, speaking to three quite silly American girls and listening Rammstein...but all this proved more than fruitful. I met an interesting person (author of my tattoo) and got a wonderful piece of art on my back (really well done!). It heals extremely quickly: I could sleep on my back and today we could already take quite a good pic of it.
Voila, here's my Fire-Snake symbol and the Chinese Dragon:

After arrival to Wantage and settling Dawid down after weekend away, I opened my inbox and...
wow! I have my first donation! Magda, you are my Angel!:)
It made my day!:) (together with the check for my first sold picture and an sms from dear Jane!)

Cool sites on astronomy

What is happening, what is happening! MoD is opening archives on UFO cases!
Google launches maps of universe - Google Sky!

And Microsoft does similar - WorldWide Telescope is fun!

Check them all, it's really a cool way of learning something new and amazing! (Unless you know everything about astronomy;))

From my diary, 23.05.08

It has been a year since...my world has recovered. His too, I believe. Exactly a year ago I made the bravest and the simplest choice of my life - my own freedom and independence (in terms of basic human rights). I wanted away from someone who tried to claim me for himself without any ethical constraints.

As a paradox Ethics was mentioned on my annual review today, hm...life can be so hilarious, no wonder I do not need TV, ha!

But, to stay serious, some of you might know me personally, some of you work with me, some of you know my ex. I only hope that you will understand that this is a purely private blog and I really hope it will not affect your opinion on any of us. We live, work, create next to each over and some of our life aspect are simply undiscovered.

Well, I need to and I decided to write about it simply because I think I have learned my lesson and there is lot's of women (every fourth woman in the UK!!!) who need my words and need your support. If you ask me why you should donate I will simply show the reasoning behind charities like Amnesty International simply by bringing up myself as example again. It was due to the Woman's Aid (both personal service, as well as website info) and (remarkably professional, polite and kind) Police services that I managed so well. So I KNOW it is worth it and I KNOW it is an issue not talked about but existing.

So once again - PLEASE SUPPORT those who know how, when and where to help!

Thank you in advance!

AND THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT DURING LAST YEAR. I COULD NOT HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT YOU!

2nd day, 112 days to day 0

Today was harder in terms of the training itself, but more pleasurable since JackyChamp joined me (together with his lovely new bag:))
10 lengths seemed more than impossible and I think it will be a larger challenge than expected. It's O.K. now, I have just started, but the very temptation of meeting K. for a coffee and SITTING for an hour is sooo good!
Well, we shall see. I did a naughty thing today, so I will have to admit it: I smoked a cigar. Apart from this, I was a good girl:)

Now I am discovering I didn't eat enough so I suffer from a shitty migraine. Oh, well, I do deserve it:/

Cementum vs. Beksinski

The 3 day long exhibition in Appleton (pix here) made me realize that the participating in viewing of my art IS the catharsis I was looking for - at work, in life, in love, in friendship, in sex...I understood that there is nothing, but NOTHING that can make me happier than the view of casual people passing by and stopping for a second in front of my photo - my own vision of the world (even though yet such a beginner one:/) I became a full entity again! And old and eternal MYSELF (and a part of a team that raised £1000 for a charity)
On the road from complete lost of my identity and self-confidence I closed the circle and came out as a re-born once again. This time the process was so complete, that I deserve the new tattoo (planned for Saturday, if all goes well): a little fire snake represented by the Chinese dragon.
I see what the Master was preaching and striving for when saying:
' Photographer is somebody who is inspired by the surrounding reality and who’s transforming the reality using photographic equipment. I was always inspired by what’s within me, and nobody has ever invented a camera capable to photograph thoughts.' ( Zdzislaw Beksinski)
(Click on the pic below to go to his works>)

I see why Richard wants to be so precise and so intense about his writing, that he even orders a notebook with his favorite Beksinski painting engraved on the cover! I find the idea marvelous!
'I generally find inspiration in everything, literally everything. I guess you have to be like that when writing, take a look at an object or person, animal, anything, and take something from it, steal part of it for yourself. Always be thinking, always be contemplating, always taking that little twist on each and every thing you see, witness, hear, and making it your own. I love it, life, converting it, grabbing at all that is placed before me, refining it and giving it definition.' (Cementum)

Because yes, we all need to be inspired and then, we can perform little miracles:)
So here is my inspiration and the result of a lovely weekend at the sea - another (apart from Earth and Fire - Chinese Fire Snake) element of mine, titled SeeSea.I am having cool Gothic dreams again so I am off to enjoy the next one! Nightnight!

Video is to be found here:

My post was quite weak, but others are worth reading, really...

Day 1, 113 days to day 0.

Day Zero is the 7th of September 2008 when I have to run in the Adidas Women Challenge representing Amnesty International (Amnesty For Women Rights).

Today is the first day of my training. I take it very easy, starting with swimming. It took me two weeks to convince myself to do just that properly, so WELL DONE!
Currently my training possibilities are restricted to one hour of my lunch brake (lunch eaten in front of PC), so I need to make sure I do take it.

Swimming was cool today, I did 10 lengths and I think it helps to set up a daily goal too.
By the 8th I was dying.
The 9th was still hard.
The 10th went smooth and I actually enjoyed it better than the very few at the beginning. How bizarre.

Now I am sitting at my desk and all aching. How not bizarre.

Once I manage to swim every day, I can start jogging in the gym. By the time my parent come over to help me out with Dawid, I will be fit enough to do some serious running.
So I think I am pretty ok, although I still do not know how long the actual run is. I didn't bother checking...I might regret that part:/

As for now I am being strict to myself and sticking to the fist of the top 10 rules of training: RESTING!:)

China and freedom of speech...

Today is the day of bloggers supporting Amnesty International in fight for freedom of speech and other, basic human right.
Did you know, that Google is restricted in China? Did you know that foundations of web ethics are being ignored and the results coming up from the search do not include sites not approved by the Chinese government?

Check the testimony.Check BBC news 1 , News 2, News 3. Check this too.Or this.

More on internet censorship in China here.

And an interesting study here.

These or just the results of the Google search of the topic;)

Girl With a One Track Mind

Before I try to relate to all the Hungarian and Polish reviews of the book, let me share with you my personal experience of reading the book...

Shortly: it put me back to my place, it opened the long forgotten emotional sensors. Actually reading it came together with both my exhibitions and the full set of amazing experiences (feedback from all the viewers, newly met artist fellows, lovely atmosphere of two last weekends - one with and one without my son, perfect weather and non-commercial relaxed life filling me up with new ideas for next year) closed the chapter of my sad marriage, brought back the old me who trusts the beauty of the world and the craziness of human kind.
Once again, I know who I want to be. I know what I want. I choose the people I want to be friends with. I ignore the assholes/lesses. I have re-discovered the inner source of energy and feel I can do so much more!

Abby Lee's book gave only the ground of openness and sensuality for all those re-discoveries, still - without the book I would most probably move over the beautiful moments without even noticing them. And believe me, only 0.01% of them was connected to sexuality as such!

Well done, impressively honest and well written!

Human Rights for China

Demand justice for the Tiananmen Mothers
Demonstrate on the 19th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Crackdown

When: Wednesday June 4 2008, 6-7pm
Where: Chinese Embassy, 49-51 Portland Place, W1B 1JL London
Nearest Tubes: Regents Park & Great Portland Street

Human rights defenders, activists and ordinary people in China are increasingly being repressed in order to ensure that they are silenced before the Olympic Games begin in Beijing - people like the Tiananmen Mothers. The Tiananmen Mothers are a group of around 130 human rights defenders whose relatives were killed or injured during the military crackdown on the 1989 pro-democracy movement in China.

On the 19th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown we are saying we will not be silenced - we will speak up because we want human rights for China. Visible public action is crucial now to create international pressure on the Chinese authorities.

What you can do
Please join us and bring a rose to take part in the solidarity action. Visit the Amnesty UK website for further details, as well as information on how to make a flag or headband to bring to the demo. Speakers will include Kate Allen, Director - Amnesty International UK; Wei Jingsheng - Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition; and Ze Xia - Director - Friends of Tiananmen Mothers in the UK.

Demonstrations are also planned in Edinburgh and Belfast; visit www.amnesty.org.uk/china for more information about the campaign.

Appleton Art opened!

It was so much fun to join the opening last night! Appleton is a charming village and the place of the exhibition turned into magical home for our works.

I met very interesting people with various approaches towards creating, viewing, selling and buying art.

It's not only a learning curve. Not only way of putting bad memories away and exchanging them for new, pleasant ones. It's a great experience of art 'here and now' and I am glad I can be a part of it.

I sold one of my garden photos, made on a very cold Sunday morning, so I guess it was worth freezing then;)
OK, I need to run back there now...

Mother's Day in China

'Dear friend of Amnesty,

This Sunday, 11 May, is Mothers' Day in China. Just like here, it's a day for families to celebrate the strength and love that mothers bring into our lives.

And this year, it's a chance for us to reach out to some particular mothers in Beijing who have experienced the worst thing a mother could endure - the death of their own children, at the hands of their own government.

They call themselves the Tiananmen Mothers. They are a group of predominantly Chinese women who never wanted to be activists. But when their children were killed in the violent military crackdown on the Chinese pro-democracy movement in 1989, everything changed.

All they ask is the freedom to publicly mourn without harassment, the release all those who remain in prison in connection with the 1989 protests, full public debate about the events and an independent inquiry into what happened on those dark days almost 19 years ago.

All they want is justice. Led by Ding Zilin (who was nominated for a Nobel peace prize), they face great personal risk every time they speak out. They've suffered detentions, repeated interrogations, and prolonged house arrest. It's a long, dangerous, and all too lonely campaign.

We can never restore what they've lost. But this Mothers' Day in China, we can show these brave women just how big their global family really is, and how much we appreciate their courageous stand for justice.

If you take a moment to fill out a Mothers' Day card online, we'll deliver your comments directly to the Tiananmen Mothers by Chinese Mothers' Day. Just click below to complete and send your card:

Click here to send your card

This Mothers' day in China, let's take a moment to show the Tiananmen mothers that on this day -- which has become so bitter sweet for them -- they are not forgotten. They are never alone.

Please fill out your card today.

Thank you'

Sea Land 3

Tomorrow we will open the exhibition in Appleton. I would like to start explaining the background of my input into this project. I have finally managed to put together a map with all the places I have used to randomly name my photos. Well, maybe not randomly, but almost;)
I decided to name this exhibition Sea Land, because
1. It is also a name of a British place
2. It quite well, symbolically, describes my current state - the constant balancing between walking on the land of my new life and dreaming in the few spear moments providing me with maximum creativity needed to feel that my life carries a meaning (for myself, my family, my friends). Balancing towards harmony, which makes me a happy person.
3. Sea Land is how I currently see the UK - mixture of very traditional and established communities with constantly fluctuating migrations.

I am looking for the places I have chosen to name the photos and I want to visit them this year. Kristina mentioned she would like to join me, so I can accomplish the plan easier, with her support. Thank her for that!:) We will take new photos and discover new 'Sea Land', and surely blog about it;)

Guantanamo prisoner released after 6 years!

Here is the newsletter itself:

'Dear Sylwia,

In the face of impossible odds, your thousands of letters made a huge impact last week.

On May 1st, Sami al Hajj was released from Guantánamo Bay prison after six and a half years in detention. Al Hajj was a focus of our write-a-thon in December and was adopted by Amnesty groups across the country.

Sami was a journalist for the television station al-Jazeera. In 2002, he was assigned to cover the conflict in Afghanistan. While traveling in Pakistan, Sami al Hajj was stopped by Pakistani police and detained.

He was handed over to U.S. forces, taken to Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan, and ultimately to Guantánamo He was never charged with a crime, yet was held and allegedly tortured for six years.

Upon being released, Sami flew to Khartoum, Sudan. His health was in such bad condition that he had to be carried off on a stretcher.

Amnesty International won't stop until everyone held at Guantánamo is given the chance to defend themselves in an impartial court of law or set free.

This week, Amnesty launches a massive new initiative to bring a life-sized replica (3D tour) of a maximum security Guantánamo Bay prison cell to cities across America.

RSVP to attend or volunteer at the Cell Tour events.

Starting in Miami with special events this Thursday and Saturday, we will show visitors what it's like to experience the harsh realities of illegal detention and prolonged isolation. Visitors will be able to record 30 second videos protesting illegal detention from inside the cell.

Thank you again for your passion and hard work.'

Check Sami's Wikipedia site:
'he web-site http://prisoner345.net/sami-haj reports that Sami had throat cancer in 1998, which went into remission.[11] He had been prescribed anti-cancer drugs, which he was supposed to take every day, for the rest of his life. The site reports that Sami's anti-cancer drugs have been with-held from him. The site also reports that guards shattered Sami's knee, that his injury also requires medical treatment, and that medical treatment for this injury was also being with-held.'

And other link with comprehensive story here.

I simply cannot believe that this is happening in 21st century...

Feminists and flowers

There is something metaphysical in receiving flowers from men...yesterday morning I had to leave my boyfriend on his own in my flat and head off to work (horrible, horrible feeling no matter how self-motivated I am to study social media:P) and when I came back home I found bunch of white flowers in my favorite vase! The same type that proved to stay alive for 5 weeks last time I bought them myself!!!
It is an inter-textual gesture and unspoken joy to see that someone can make the effort and do something so nice!
It is an old truth that women and flowers belong to each other. I even believe than humans in general do not appreciate the beauty and power of flowers. They carry symbolic meanings. They are honestly proud of their beauty. They live quite short lives just to make ours friendlier...
I cannot help but be surprised by this gesture...and I find it rather sad. We do not give, not receive flowers. And if we do, it must be justify and tight down to prescribed procedures...why?
Believe me - give a flower to your friend, you lady, your husband  - and you will receive a smile worth millions and you will see the type off happiness (even if just for one second) which brakes walls and lifts you up...

I am happy to be honored with one of those white and outstanding wonders of nature in my little living room.

Thank you, J.

In between two events

My small exhibit in Oxford ArtFair proved to be great program for that weekend. We had so much fun with Dawid! He made it thought 6 hours of staying in one place, so I am really impressed. I am more than grateful to all interested in my works and the few who left me with great thoughts for new ones!

i will be in Appleton this weekend and I am very happy that my colleagues will be there too. Dawid goes to visit his dad so next weekend we will go to the seaside. Dawid's first hotel room is booked - hopefully with a nice view:) and lot's of photos brought back after lovely two days in Bournemouth. I need to gather some new works to apply for few new exhibitions and I am quite upset that at the end of the day I have hardly any strength to sit and blog:/

Evenings are nice though - the garden is in its best form ever and the sunny afternoons turn gently into the warm evenings. I love to spend those moments on a swing, with Dawid.

It will be a proposal for next week's 'Sea Land' exhibition in Appleton and new project called 'Steps' (hardcore industrial material I want to exhibit in Jam Factory - if they let me exhibit there again:)).

Hope to see you all there:)

I am giving myself this weekend, and afterwards start my training, ufff....be prepared for long series of moaning:(

I am a moron

I am having a shitty morning. I am getting ill. I am not prepared for my exhibition tomorrow. I have no idea who is planning, and who is not planning to come. I am fed up with myself, work, day and stupid weather and I feel it is going to rain tomorrow - if not everywhere it definetly will in Oxford castle after 10AM, when we are to have the art fair.
I am grumpy, and I feel like crying...I need a lot of chocolate: I started the day with a mini chocolate pudding - entered the office via kitchen, and ate it with my bad and coat still on....later I got a choc bar from a cute collegue of mine.
I still feel shit, shit, shit...

And what do I see in my spam inbox?:
How the f@@@ am I supposed to feel better!?
